Downloading, uploading and completing assessments
Who is this article for?
Suppliers and company users who need to download, complete, and upload assessments using the Authenticate iPad app.
An internet connection is required for some of these steps.
This guide explains how to manage assessments in the Authenticate iPad app, including downloading, completing, and uploading them.
1. Downloading assessments
- Your home screen is set up in two columns:
- Right‑hand side: Assessments assigned to you and available for download.
- Left‑hand side: Assessments that have been downloaded and are available offline.
- To make an assessment available offline, select the Download button. The assessment will move from the right‑hand side to the left‑hand side once downloaded.
- To find an assessment, scroll down the right‑hand side or filter the list by template or site.
Note: Clear any filters applied when searching for other assessments.
Important:
- If you lose your iPad or delete the assessment, it cannot be recovered.
- Once downloaded, the assessment cannot be accessed via the main platform until it is uploaded back.
- Downloaded assessments are locked to your user on your iPad.
- On the main platform, downloaded assessments are highlighted with an iPad icon.
2. Completing an assessment
- Ensure you have downloaded the correct assessment before travelling to a location without internet access.
- From the assessment details page, select Start Assessment (or Continue Assessment if already started).
- You will be taken to the first question to answer, or the first unanswered question if continuing.
3. Uploading an assessment *
- When the assessment is complete, upload it back to the main platform. This copies all answers, attachments, comments, observations, and corrective actions from your iPad.
- On the assessment details page, select the Upload button at the bottom.
- Confirm that you want to save all answers to the main platform and remove the assessment from the iPad.
- Once uploaded successfully:
- The assessment will be removed from the offline list on your iPad.
- The assessment will be unlocked on the main platform.
- The assessment will reappear in the right‑hand side column of available assessments to download.
You will receive a confirmation screen showing instant feedback:
- % Complete: How far the assessment has progressed.
- Risk/compliance score & status: Based on responses, the assessment is categorised as follows:

| Critical | 0 | A failure to meet a key claim, food safety standard, legal standard, or significant welfare standard where this failure puts the customer and/or brand integrity at risk. |
| Major | 1 | A deficiency requiring prompt attention to prevent a potential claim, food safety issue, legal issue, or moderate welfare issue. |
| Minor | 2 | Non‑compliance with production requirements for elements that do not impact claims, food safety, legal standards, or minor welfare standards. |
| Satisfactory | 3 | Basic compliance adherence, positive multiple‑choice answers, or positive answers for non‑policy criteria. |
| Excellent | 4 | Higher welfare outcomes or improved environmental outcomes. |
| N/A | 0 | Observational or screening questions, or negative/neutral answers for non‑policy criteria. |
